James Pull once again proved himself as a rising star in GT racing at this weekend’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe race at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit, claiming yet another podium to add to his impressive record.
Heading out to his home circuit for the first time in his GT career, the young British-Malaysian rising star put in a blistering performance during Friday’s practice sessions ending the first practice session P1.
Despite heavy traffic hampering James’ chances in the Saturday morning qualifying sessions, the number 3 Bonaldi Motorsport car lined up on the 3rd row for both of the weekend's races. Hopping into the car for the second stint of Race One, the 2017 British F3 Vice Champion set about on putting his vast knowledge of the circuit (scoring podiums at the track in all 3 British F3 races last year), into action.
Utilising this experience, Pull was rapid from the outset, battling for third and lapping quicker than anyone else on track. But a cruel twist of fate stripped him of his opportunity, with a mechanical problem ending his race prematurely with a retirement.
“Kelvin did a pretty good job in the first stint,” he commented. “Then, when I got in the car, I was fighting for third place and as I was about to make a move, my drive shaft failed so I had to retire the car, which is a shame because we definitely could have got P3.”
Putting this disappointment behind them, James switched focus to the remaining race, determined to make up for the podium that slipped away the day before.
Taking to the wheel for the first stint, he put in a determined and skilful drive with some overtaking attempts around the famous and tricky Maggots and Becketts corners before handing the car over to team mate Kelvin Snoeks. Kelvin continued James’ fantastic form crossing the line in third - this time with reliability on their side.
“Really good to get a podium in the end, after the disappointment in race 1, especially in front of the home crowd,” James said.
“The team and Kelvin have been really good, again, like at Monza, so I’m really happy to be working with them and it's really cool to be on the Lamborghini Young Driver programme too.”
This latest podium takes James’ silverware tally up to an impressive nine of a possible twelve podiums across the European, Asian and Middle-Eastern Super Trofeo series including an outstanding 4 wins and 4 second places
Leaving Silverstone as the ‘Top British Driver’ in the standings, James now has a short break until the next race of the season, at the Misano World Circuit (23rd—24th of June), where he will be looking to continue with his impressive run of results.
